She was a reporter for The Washington Post nearly a decade, covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as well as basketball at multiple Olympics. Nichols began her career at ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She worked for 9 years at the network, earning two Emmy Awards. The show was watched by more than one billion viewers throughout the globe. Nichols reported on NBA television broadcasts for TNT as well as the regular season, playoffs and all-star broadcasts. She also reported for TBS broadcasting golf and baseball broadcasts and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. It was the only time in the award's 42-year-old history that a woman was selected from the over 200 candidates.
